How to choose a stroller in 5 steps

Does choosing a stroller seem like a daunting and difficult task? Worried about choosing the wrong stroller and ending up never using it?

Well, actually, it doesn’t have to be a daunting and difficult task if you have the right tools available. Although it will take a bit of time, with the right steps you won’t have to worry about choosing the wrong stroller.

In this article, we’ll walk you through the 5-step process of choosing a stroller and provide you with the tools to do it.

Step 1: How/Where will you use the stroller the most?

The first step in choosing the best stroller is to figure out how and where you will use the stroller the most. This is the most important step in the process as everything else will be based on this decision. If you can determine exactly how you’ll use the stroller, the next step, choosing important features, will be much easier. Here are some examples of how the stroller can be used:

  • In the city every day, instead of a car.
  • Quiet to walk or go to the park.
  • To travel

Step 2: Which stroller features are most important to you?

Now that you have figured out how/where you will use the stroller the most, you can choose the features of the stroller. This decision is based on two things: 1. how the feature will affect the function of the stroller 2. specific features/improvements you want (for example: height-adjustable handlebars, reversible seat, etc.). Some features to consider are safety, stroller weight, ease of folding, tires, storage, compatibility, upgrades, and price. It is crucial to list the features in order of importance, as well as write down why each feature is important.

Step 3 – Look for strollers that have those features

With your important features chart in hand, it’s time to find strollers that have these features. The best way to do this is to flip through comparison charts and stroller reviews and make a list of different strollers that match your list of features. Depending on how many features you have chosen, it may or may not be difficult to find strollers that have them all, as strollers are not perfect. Fortunately, you’ve numbered the features in order of importance and written down why each one is important. This is useful because you can A. remember why you ordered it that way and change it as you see fit and B. search for strollers that have the 3-5 most important features.

Step 4: Find out more about strollers

Now that you have a list of strollers that have some or all of the important features, it’s time to narrow down the options, there are some really great resources to help with this:

  • Stroller Reviews
  • comparison tables
  • Amazon specifically verified customer reviews and questions and answers that others have asked.
  • Youtube videos
  • Testing/viewing the stroller in real life, either by seeing if friends have any of the strollers you are looking for or by going to a physical store.

As you go through these different resources, write down what you like and don’t like about each stroller. I suggest creating an Excel document (or Google Sheet) to keep everything in one place and in order.

After going through all of these different resources and going through your excel sheet, you should be able to narrow down your stroller list. By now you should have at most 3 strollers to choose from, all of which are probably very similar with only slight differences.

Step 5: Choose the best stroller

Here comes the hardest part, you have to choose which stroller you are going to buy! The best way to do this is to go through your excel sheet and really take note of which strollers have all/most of the features you want, plus most of the extra things you like. Plus, you can check the different resources again to see if there’s anything you missed before. If you’re having a hard time deciding between two strollers, you can always buy both on Amazon, try them out, and return the one you don’t like.

Just remember that no stroller is ever going to be perfect, but if the stroller has good reviews, as well as the features you want/need to make it perform better, then you have a 99% chance of being happy with your choice.

Best of luck,
