How can you clean the UV flame sensor on your own?

Process plants need a device that can sense the flame in the burners to control the continuous flame to prevent catastrophic fires. To select such equipment, one must be careful. Search for the product and market for modern technology, before buying the product to get the best. There are various types of flame sensors among which UV flame sensor is one of the most influential products that is preferred due to its fascinating features. You can detect the flame on the burner from 0 to 50 feet away. This is a thin metal rod, with a rod structure, that is fixed in the burner in front of the jet of flame.

The principle of operation of the device is to detect the flame efficiently and give the signal to the system that alarms the operator. Whenever the valve is open, the flame is present and the sensors must detect it at the right moment. Sometimes the system becomes slow and delays detection due to idle time. Dirt settles in the sensor opening due to the presence of carbon which reduces the working efficiency of the device. Some people get confused and think that the system is broken. While it does not break, but dirt gets in its way and it has less tolerance for variations. The slightest layer of carbon causes it to misread and shut off.

To get it working again, you can follow these points:-

Turn off the power: You must disconnect the power before checking the sensor. This ensures the safety of the entire setup and it is important to turn off the thermostat (temperature control). If this option is not available, you can close all settings.

Remove the flame sensor: The sensor is easily accessible and can be unscrewed with a screwdriver. After removing the screws, remove it and you can clean it better. Carefully remove and separate the cable.

Wipe device: After removing it, clean it with sandpaper. Rub it gently using the back and forth motion and don’t go over it. Wipe up excess with a clean, dry paper towel. Do not use a damp cloth on it.

Check the results: After cleaning the device, fix it again and check the results. If it starts up in a few seconds or the fan turns on immediately, it is normal. Try to carry out a process successfully.
