ACN claims to be the world’s leading telecom direct seller, is this fact, hype or even a scam from ACN? Today’s article takes a look at ACN on whether or not this is a great legal MLM business opportunity.

ACN was founded in 1993 by Greg Provenzano and Robert Stevanovski. They started out trying to provide a money-saving option for services like home and office phone lines. The co-founders understood that trying to compete with some of the other big telecom networks would not only be a daunting task, but would also cost thousands, if not millions, in marketing spend, just to stay in the industry.

Network marketing was introduced to the world a few decades earlier with organizations like Tupperware and Nutrilite, so it made sense to use this proven marketing method to build the business. MLM has always been an apprehension for those who don’t recognize the industry, so it wasn’t long before the question was asked: Is ACN a scam? By providing low cost but good service, ACN grew and grew at a rapid rate. In the first year the company received income of two million dollars. In 1998, ACN was listed in ‘Inc. 500’ as number 22 on this annual list of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the United States. ACN continued operations in Europe in 1999 and then Australia in 2004. It now operates in 20 countries on 3 major continents. By 2006, the organization had grown to such a height that it gained the interest and endorsement of billionaire Donald Trump.

ACN has added additional products and services over the years, such as cell phones, Internet, satellite TV, home security, and most recently Video Phone (VOIP), all of which have good competitive and affordable payment packages that attract customers.

ACN has good credentials, backing and fundamentals, so I think we can safely say that ACN is not a scam, but it will actually bring you the income that it claims it can. MLM has always had a stigma attached to it that network marketing is like a pyramid scheme and will not deliver the big income promises that are recommended. Unfortunately, ACN has not escaped that stigma and in 2004 the company’s Australian division had a formal investigation alleging violations of the Trade Practices Act 1974 with respect to provisions of the law relating to pyramid schemes. Fortunately the courts were in favor of ACN and the business went ahead.

You might hear the occasional claim that ACN is a scam to unexpected people, however people who say this would generally speak this way about any MLM organization, the general reason perhaps because they have found it difficult to earn a good income from it. The truth is, in general, MLM offers great income plans and ACN is no different. The potential is great and it has turned ordinary people into millionaires! Starting your business should be easy, you just need a few people to recruit and get started, unfortunately this can end up being the biggest and most challenging experience you will face within this industry. Many of the traditional techniques ie talking to friends and family, completing home presentations, handing out brochures, looking for leads, etc. don’t work for everyone (I speak from experience), most associates can give up in the first 6 months and then maintain that MLM doesn’t work.

The answer to increasing your MLM is a variety of marketing strategies. Exit cannot be an option, there is a way to make ACN and all other businesses work, but you must persist in finding a solution. I initially marketed offline doing weekly hotel presentations for months with hardly any success, my upline was making about $15,000 each month though I couldn’t get my warm market to take action, everyone loved the business model but no one was minded enough to make this work. I didn’t quit and instead looked for a solution.

Online marketing also allows networkers the opportunity to generate income from people who even say NO to ACN or any business it markets to. Many more network marketers are turning to the internet as a form of marketing which has helped create fantastic results for many people. Some will say that internet marketing is the current marketing method, while traditional methods are exactly that ‘traditional’, I’ll leave it up to you to decide.
