What Are RN CEUs?

RN CEUs

CEUs, or continuing education units, are a great way to expand one’s knowledge and skills. Many large hospitals and other medical facilities offer free or low-cost courses. Independent nurses can also complete CEUs online, at their own pace. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has a list of nationally accredited providers.

RNs are required to complete continuing education units to maintain their nursing licenses. Continuing education is not only necessary for nurses to stay up-to-date and provide quality care, but it is also a good way to reduce the risk of liability for healthcare institutions. Choosing a course carefully is important.

RNs must choose courses that will improve their practice of nursing. CEU courses must be approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which sets the standards for nursing board certification. By taking ANCC-approved courses, nurses can enhance their earning potential and stay current in their profession. This ensures that nurses are providing the best care to patients. CE requirements can be challenging for busy nurses, but there is ample time to complete them.

APRNs must complete twenty hours of CE in their area of practice. This amount can be lower than the 20 hours required for active practice. What Are RN CEUs?

RNs are required to renew their license every two years. For the first licensing cycle, licenses are valid for six months to 29 months. During this time, license renewal is mandatory. However, if an RN misses a renewal period, they risk losing their license altogether.

Continuing education is a must for nursing professionals. In order to renew their license, nurses must complete 30 contact hours of continuing education. They may also be required to do so in order to maintain professional certifications. Nurses must keep their legal names current with the Board, and must inform the Board of any changes within 10 days of a change. Noncompliance with this rule will require them to undergo another audit. Falsifying records or avoiding an audit are considered unprofessional and can lead to disciplinary action.
