This is true across the board, even truer when building a list. It used to be until very recently that you could have three active links in your resource box.

People would think “Great, let’s use them all and send them everywhere.”

For people just starting out, that strategy of sending them to a subscription page, maybe a freebie, and then maybe a product made sense. Even that was confusing.

Recently, EzineArticles has narrowed it down to just two active links in their resource box. An active link is a link to your website or blog where they can click and get more information from you.

Give your prospect a choice

For listing purposes; too many links is two, too many options is two, and too many invites is two. You just want to have one. If there’s anything else you want to invite them to, you do so in the follow-up email. When people download my two templates, I send a thank you email and invite them to Article Guy teleseminars.

I don’t do that in the resource box anymore because you want them to have a choice, so they don’t get confused and be very clear. Part of what you’re doing there is psychology behind the scenes. By doing that, you are preparing and training them to be ready for your subscription box where there is only one option.

Do you follow that? Having only one option in the resource box prepares them to be ready for only one option in the subscription box and to make that decision, which is to opt in. You are leading them to the desired outcome, which is on your list, throughout this entire process.
