So do you think energy drinks are harmless and keep you awake all night or a very boring job? Guess again! Drinking too many energy drinks can seriously affect your health. On the other hand, having energy drinks from time to time, when you really need it, is not all bad. Let’s debunk some myths.

Myth # 1- Energy drinks burn calories. What they really do is give you the energy to burn off some calories. A quick burst of energy before working out isn’t frowned upon, but when it comes to an energy drink, caffeine gives you a quick boost and has the potential to crash. In addition to your energy drink or energy shot, consider some fruits and lean proteins.

Myth # 2 –Increase your metabolism. This is as far from the truth as possible. While it gives your metabolism a quick (and temporary) boost afterward, your stomach is still stuck with carbohydrates and caffeine, neither of which stimulates metabolism.

Myth # 3 – Energy drinks give your body back the nutrients you have lost during exercise. This is not true either. While it can provide a boost early in the game or exercise period, it has the potential to make you thirsty. Instead of drinking more, you may want to opt for water or fruit juice, both of which hydrate you without taking your energy levels through the roof. While your energy drink or energy shot may provide you with an energy boost, don’t look for it to provide nutrients. There are better ways to get them.
