Cyprus, the second largest island in the Mediterranean, is fast becoming home to Britain’s silver-haired generation retiring, as well as UK yuppies looking to spend their newfound wealth online!
Cyprus, a Greek-speaking republic, joined the EU in 2004 and thus allowed workers to settle there, as the EU allows free movement of people and trade.
The advantage of Cyprus for workers is threefold. The island speaks English proficiently, flights to Lanarka airport are cheap, direct and plentiful, and best of all, tax rates are currently 5%!
Add to this driving on the left and having restaurants we like and understand, and you have a recipe for a great work or retirement environment.

In these days of working on the Internet and with excellent communications, does it really matter where you live?

Obviously many are now saying NO to this question. They are prepared to go where there is a better climate and easier and cheaper living conditions. They eliminate the hassles of life and live and work in a healthier environment, therefore they can extend the lifespan up to eighty and ninety years!
Paphos is the most south-western point of Cyprus and the home of Aphrodite’s footsteps. Here, many members of the silver-haired generation love to live in the tranquility of the Greek heritage and historical sites. While the younger generation is located closer to the airport, in Limassol. Here, life is much more lively. The village atmosphere of the pubs, restaurants and street cafes creates a unique and thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere.

My advice:

Investment opportunities abounded on this island for retirement or investment abroad, before Cypriots joined the euro in 2008.
New airports and marinas are planned for the next 5 years, generally making Cyprus a “desirable location” as well as a great place to retire or work.
