Canon EOS 1000D: express, shoot and share

Canon is well known for its high-end and entry-level DSLRs. All Canon digital cameras come with a great system of lenses and accessories. After the best-selling entry-level 300D and 400D, the fifth generation of Canon’s “Digital Rebel” family offers the Canon EOS 1000D. With its compact design, the EOS 100D is lighter, less expensive, and offers a good lens.

Like many other EOS models, the EOS 1000D is designed to deliver the best image quality.

This is a 10.1 megapixel CMOS digital camera with an EF-S 18-55mm-IS lens with image stabilization.

The EF-S 18-55mm-IS lens comes with an Optical Image Stabilizer (which is what IS stands for) that eliminates camera shake and ensures sharper images. You can buy additional lenses from Canon as it is compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S EX series.

Among many amazing features, the Canon EOS 1000D is also equipped with a 7-point AF system (with an f/5.6 cross-type center point) that sets the aperture and the entire scene in focus, giving your images absolute perfection. For example, with this camera you can lock onto a subject in a fraction of a second. You can shoot up to 3 frames per second. Photographers can also enable additional noise reduction for shots captured at high ISO speeds.

HANDLING: The build quality is attractive and it is easy to handle due to its lightweight body and compact design.

The MENU system is well implemented and not so crowded, making it easy to access. The controls are well laid out. However, the dial needs some getting used to. For example, after selecting an option, you must remember to set it to “enable state”.

COLOR: This camera also provides incredible color accuracy. Canon’s auto white balance does an excellent job of delivering well-lit images with vivid colours. The EOS 1000D even allows you to correct colors as you shoot. For example, Auto Lighting Optimizer corrects brightness and contrast, and also improves skin tones by ensuring the correct exposure of faces.

EXPOSURE: Compare with spot metering option using partial metering mode is easier to get good results.

METERING MODES 35-zone evaluative, partial metering (9% center), and center-weighted average modes are available.

NOISE: Canon provides minimal noise and offers great performance in its class.

Some other features of the EOS 1000D include:

• The LCD monitor is smaller (2.5″) but practical and does not automatically turn off. It is equipped with Live View shooting: Quick AF and Live AF. Quick AF: Quickly operate by rotating the mirror to magnify the sensor. Live AF that uses contrast information to focus.

• The EOS 1000D also ships with the DIGIC III Image Processor.

• The EOS 1000D is compatible with SD and SDHC memory cards, so you can choose between your image files.

• Complete with all the essential features, the Canon EOS 1000D delivers great images with minimal gimmickry. For example, the EOS integrated cleaning system will reduce, remove and repel dust.

• The Canon EOS 1000D comes bundled with Digital Photo Professional RAW processing software that provides all the tools needed to process and manage images.

One problem with this camera is: when in three frames per second mode, the motor will run continuously until the battery dies. However, for those photographers who want to capture every action at all times, this could be an advantage.
