Beach Holidays in Goa

Goa is famous for its cultural heritage and some of the best beaches in the world. The land has a Portuguese connection for more than 450 years. In Goa you can see the beautiful sandy beaches, a delicious laissez faire attitude, abundant seafood, original houses and old churches of the Portuguese tradition. In fact, the search for Paradise with his family ends here!

You can visit Goa at any time of the year. But if you ask Goa, the best time is when it rains. The southwest monsoon winds blow through the place and even the gods make it their favorite abode.

The most popular beaches dot the 7km line from Sinquerim through Calangute and Baga in the north, and a 25km stretch in the south comprising Velsao, Uttorda, Colva, Benaulim, Fatrade, Majorda and Cavellosim. Colva has one of the longest unbroken stretches of sand, backed by shady palm trees. It is the most popular of South Goa’s beaches and has a busy market square and several seafood bars and cafes.

Bogmalo Beach is safe for swimming and is an ideal family beach with adequate water sports facilities. Vainguinim has facilities for sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, parasailing, canoeing and diving, as well as motor boats and jet skis for hire.

Baga Beach, which is an extension of Calangute, is the most developed beach in Goa. It is very active with numerous bars, resorts and shacks and some lively nightspots. It hosts a quiet flea market on Saturdays, a great alternative to the Wednesday market at nearby Anjuna Beach.

Anjuna Beach has recently replaced Calangute as a backpacker haven. It’s better known for its full-moon rave parties and sprawling flea market than its beach. The popular market held every Wednesday is packed with street vendors from across India selling everything from Balinese batik, silver jewelry and papier-mâché boxes to Tibetan prayer wheels and Desi handicrafts.

Candolim beach, which is located to the south of Calangute, stretches as far as Fort Aguada. This is a popular beach with speed boats and jet skis. Sinquerim beach, which extends to the Fort Aguada bastion, has three luxury hotels sitting on its sands. Some reliable operators offer a variety of facilities for water sports and boat tours.

To cater to the growing number of visitors, many of these beaches now have shacks serving beer, snacks, and seafood, lively flea markets, and vendors offering a variety of services, from head messages to dolphin-watching trips to family trips.
