3G wireless communication systems

Research and Design (R&D) activities have always produced new innovations, and led to the development of the next generation of wireless systems. The third generation (3G) of mobile telephony promises to provide important features, in higher data speeds, up to around 2Mbits/second, teleconferences with video transmission, web browsing, etc. With the IMT-2000 standardization, 3G mobile systems provide full roaming functions, allowing integration with GSM systems. International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) is a global standard that defines the parameters, specifications and recommendations for third generation mobile technology. IMT-2000 provides a framework for access to the 3G system, linking the various terrestrial, wireless and satellite systems.
