What is methamphetamine injection?

Methamphetamine injection is the act of injecting methanol into a vehicle’s engine intake to increase octane, power, and fuel efficiency. This type of injection is synonymous with methamphetamine injection because water can be mixed with methanol in the process.

Methamphetamine injection became popular when car enthusiasts became interested in maximizing their vehicle’s power potential. Many of these enthusiasts were not professional racers and did not have access or economic means to high-octane fuel. The high octane fuel was necessary to effectively execute the highest boosts they had. Finally, after research and trials, a cost-effective alternative called water and alcohol injection was created.

The water and alcohol injection is known as methanol injection when using methanol or a mixture of water and methanol. Other alcohol options include ethanol, ethyl benzene, meta-xylene, and a host of other long-named chemicals. Methanol became the most popular due to its price, availability, and high octane number. There are other chemicals with much higher octane ratings, but they are harder to find, expensive, and often unnecessary.

For anyone with a forced induction system (turbocharger or supercharger) in their vehicle, injecting methanol into the intake is a viable option to utilize boost. Also, injection kits are quite simple for the amount of energy they add. A typical kit will come with a tank, hose, nozzle, pump, and a small computer controller. After installing the pump, all you have to do is decide what type of mix you want to add. You can use a 100% methanol solution or mix water with the methanol.

Pure Methamphetamine Solution vs. Methamphetamine / water solution

Many injection kit producers recommend a 50/50 mix of methanol and water, but you can inject pure methanol into your intake. The solution you choose is a matter of preference, but there are some advantages of the former over the latter.

When water is added to the solution, the water cools the air in the charging piping and intake valves. The water particles in the fine mist released by the injection nozzle absorb heat from the hot air from the turbocharger or supercharger. When the booster air cools, it becomes denser and oxygen-rich. This means more fuel and power.

Another benefit of adding water is the ability of the water to “steam clean” the intake valves. This is not as effective as walnut shell blasting, but is a preventative measure against dirty lines and valves. Also, during the injection process, not enough water is released to damage the engine. When the solution reaches the combustion chamber, there are no water particles as they are evaporated by the heat of the intake air.

The main reason racing drivers and gasoline enthusiasts use a 100% methanol solution is to eliminate engine shock. They are more concerned with increasing the octane number of the fuel in the cylinder than with cooling the intake air.

Methamphetamine injection prevents engine from knocking

Engine detonation, also called detonation, occurs when the octane number of the fuel in the combustion chamber is too low. When the octane number is too low, the fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber becomes unstable. It detonates outside the combustion front causing inefficiencies, engine wear, and pinging sounds.

Methanol traveling into the combustion chamber with air instantly increases the octane rating of the fuel injected into the combustion chamber. That is why it is a reliable alternative to high octane fuel. The required octane rating that normal street fuel does not have is offset by methamphetamine injection. At high octane levels, engine knocks are less likely.
