Dos and Don’ts of Caring for Rabbits

In everything you want to do, there are some restrictions, rules and regulations that you must follow. You can’t just do everything you want. Obviously, you should take note of some pros and cons to avoid complications or problems. This particular idea applies to just about everything you plan to do, like raising rabbits. Basically, you have the freedom to choose rabbits to be your pets. No one can stop you from adopting such adorable animals if you are really sure of your decision. But you have to be fully responsible for your decisions. Raising rabbits would definitely require you to take note of some pros and cons. To give you a hint as to what these things are, below are some of the dos and don’ts of raising rabbits.

Behind:

  • The rabbits will eventually need a place where they can stay, something that they can use as shelter. You will be responsible for providing this and must provide a suitable hutch for your pets. You can have a cage built for you or you can buy one. Make sure the cage is about 5 times the size of rabbits and should have 4 high legs.
  • The floor of your shelter should be made of solid material to prevent foot discomfort. And before you bring your rabbits home, your shelter should already be ready.
  • Inside your shelter, there should be heavy bowls or something where you can place your food and water. The reason the bowls need to be heavy is so they can’t tip over and waste what’s inside.
  • You should also put in a litter box and use only rabbit safe litter to line the box. Toys and other fun items would also make great additions to your shelter.

Not to do:

  • Avoid placing the hutch in a remote location where this would not be so good for your rabbits. They need a lot of attention from you and others in your home, as well as constant interaction.
  • You should also not place your shelter outdoors unless you are with them or if your cage can provide complete protection against predators and extreme heat. If this is the case, it would be fine to place the cage outdoors.
  • When you are cleaning your shelter or when cleaning the entire house, do not use any harsh / harsh cleaning substances near the rabbits.
  • Don’t let your rabbits enter your home without taking steps to make your home rabbit-proof.

These are just some of the pros and cons that you can take note of in order to raise your rabbits well. Along the way, you will discover more things that would make you a better or even a better pet owner. You just need to be very patient, dedicated and passionate about what you are doing.
